I think you are thinking of 2010. Massive snow storm over Northern Europe. I got stuck at CDG flying full fare J but being the amateur I was at the time, I never chased AF for a hotel etc and ended up sleeping under some chairs on the terminal floor. Nowadays (and thanks to FT) I am a lot more clued up and wouldn't allow for such a travesty!
It could also be another occasion. After all it is possible to close Heathrow with a lot less than just 1 single snowflake!
