My experience about irrops on Christmas Eve is that BA move Heaven and earth to get people home that day. Rebooking on airlines they never touch, if necessary.
Having been subject to a cancelation last Christmas Eve on my way home from Kuwait for a day, I'm not sure I'd cut it so fine again.
On that occasion fair dos to BA they rebooked me on the only flight combinations that could get me home that day which was Turkish & I guess proves C-W-S's point!
