I've never seen AA measure bags. There is a specific section on BA.com (http://www.britishairways.com/en-gb/information/baggage-essentials/hand-baggage-allowances) that says if you're on a connecting journey with AA your too big for AA but ok for BA bag may be gate checked but you won't be charged.

In practise, it will be fine.
