I think the OP is a very fair and balanced account. I'm certainly a fan of First on the A380, my favourite on BA by far.

I remember my very first trip in first, an OpUp and my reaction was very similar to the OP's. I enjoyed the service and the treat and thought that I'd be happy in Club thereafter. I wasn't!

I really enjoy the peaceful cabin and the attentive service. I like the dine on demand and the seat. Although my initial reaction was that the difference wasn't worth it I've grown accustomed to it and only ever fly in First where available.
