Haneda departures on US carriers are often at night and hence zilch to see. Daytime departures going west are more interesting. As you are basically crossing the bay and then picking up the ex-NRT route to Nth America when departing HND even daytime flights offer no much. For great views of Japan from the air I would recommend one of the offers from JL or NH (via UA is also possible I believe) for very inexpensive multiple leg flights around the country for those arriving from long haul. Really beautiful sights to be seen that way. And the cool thing about that is the local food at all the destinations. :-)
