If the property suddenly had excess inventory closed in, (could be due to cancellations with different rules) they can then offer certain discounts to clear inventory. At the same time, the intention is not for those who have an existing reservation play lesser. Afterall, they are trying to increase the takes for those days by offering rooms cheaper and not earn even lesser by having existing reaervations adjust rates downward.
