Not true, I use FedEx all the time to ship my toolboxes. I have 2 of them and they each weigh 85 lbs. It is $168 total to ship overnight. I will put this caveat on it, I use my companies FedEx number and I don't know what kind of deals they have. But even if we have a 50% discount it would still be only $336 and mine are a LOT more weight.

But the OP said it was some kind of equipment in a package and no way to take 1.5 lbs out. So I will give them that they could not get it under 70 lbs.

And for people saying, but it isn't easy to find the fees on UA's site even if they are listed, especially for someone not familiar with the site. I found it and had the fees calculated in 2 minutes and I have NEVER used UA's baggage fee calculator before or even been to that page. It's not rocket science. And the OP knew it was oversize and overweight. They just made an assumption based on another airlines fees. So, sorry, no sympathy.
