Stay at the Fasano, Copacabana Belmond Palace hotels or a couple of notches down but still great Sofitel Caesar Park...all amazingly located on the beach and easy walk to shops cafes restaurants action. Unless of course you're there on business and been to Rio numerous times Hyatt location might be OK.
I think the whole point is that they (Rio) want to turn Barra into a place with shops and restaurants.
