OP indicated middle and high end properties which is why IMHO the high end properties from both chains should be included.
And from a price point of view, Andaz and Chatwall are definitely in the same 5 star league. IMHO Chatwall wins hands down.
Just one person's experience with real-world pricing here: I've stayed at the Andaz downtown about four times and Fifth Avenue about twenty times; I've never had the St. Regis, Chatwall or Park Hyatt (admittedly new) fall anywhere near my employer's rate limit. The W Union Square is really rare, though Times Square and W New York are often within-limit.
