The OP doesn't have an award ticket.

It would help to know the details of what the OP has now. If "not enough time to get final leg" refers to a separate positioning ticket, OP is probably out of luck and stuck buying a new ticket home. However, I wonder whether OP simply has a tight connection at AMS that he/she *assumes* isn't feasible and doesn't realize how efficient AMS is for connections.
