I don't really understand your question, because I'm not sure you understand how airfares and taxes work.

Because APD are effectively APD$1:$1 there is no best or worse route. You also have to pay taxes and service fees regardless of whether you pay retail for your ticket or buy a reward seat with APD. With $1000 you're not going to be able to buy much except a flight to Australia without topping your APD balance up.


If you don't want to pay taxes and service fees your only option is to fly domestically. Any international flights are going to incur taxes and service fees which will range from around $100 for flights to Asia up to around $300 for flights to London. Australia sits in the middle at around $180 for a return flight.

Many people on here (including myself) primarily use APD as a fund for upgrades.
