As a final update on my Keepass issues, here is what happened.
I managed to find a deleted .kdb file containing the most current information.
I deleted the Keepass program on my computer. I then downloaded the new Keepass 2.X version. Keepass 2 would not open a .kdb file, but instructed me to rename the file and convert it to a .kdbx file. Following the instructions, it resulted in what I wanted, access to all my passwords by inputting my loooog security code on the Keepass 2.0 home page.
Note that I probably spent 10 hours on this adventure.
