This is not the first time I have heard that IST actually has very good security procedures..
So reading a few reviews *G even in Y seems to get access to expedited screening (ie *G lanes).. One of the appeals (against the many disincentives) to flying through IST is the Turkish lounge.
That kinda also depends where _from_ and where _to_ you're connecting.
US->EU is a breeze for example, EU->US is horrible but does include fast track,
EU->JP is also a breeze, but last time I connected JP->EU there were three widebodies that just arrived in a tiny transfer area with literally three lanes of security and absolutely no Fast Track.
So, as everything to do with Turkish — it depends.
(If lounges are a big appeal, then you'll love the SEN E one in ZRH.)
