+1. Of course it all depends on context. On a vacation TPAC I might change my routing to get on a 747, say, but if I'm flying TCONs monthly I don't need them to take any longer than they already do.
One you have to take a connection anyway. Second connecting through LAX to SFO instead of MSP/DTW may actually be quicker. LAX/SFO is a DL Shuttle product with at a min. hourly departures between the two, if not more frequent at some times. Thus you may not be adding anytime at all considering ground time connecting in MSP/DTW/ATL/etc that doesn't have the frequencies.
