LGA-RDU-LAX is a potential opportunity. As a PM, I was upgraded nearly 100% of the time on RDU-LAX.

You'd have to book it as a multi-city trip, but I think it's doable.

Non-airport time is much more valuable to me than upgrade time. A direct, non-stop flight in coach is almost always preferable to multiple legs/layovers up front.
