You can definitely use SEA on most of the fares as an allowed connection point from JFK-LAX...since DL has hubbed up SEA it's now become relevant in their fare rules..note the other possibilities. BOS is not a bad idea either in order to get a cross country flight..I might consider RDU too.

Here is the permitted routing on a $390 round trip T fare for JFK-LAX 8/2-8/5:
