Why sad story? Is not it good to be able to arrive at the airport at T-20min and still have some time for a coffee? They also renovated the airport a lot,so it's much more pleasant than it used to be.
Aqaba was supposed to be a joint Israeli-Jordanian run airport with shared border crossing and a big project to attract international carriers. Unfortunately, that never happened, so now it's nearly always empty, other than the daily AQB-AMM flight.
I am fine with small empty airports but I prefer ones that have more amenities and carriers to fly to
