Did my newbie trip last summer, and asked a similar question. Had several suggestions, and the one we liked best was a pleasant little French restaurant on Bedford Road in the Eglinton neighborhood called Le Paradis. The sidewalk cafe was perfect for conversation. The food was quite good and prices were very, very reasonable.

Le Paradis is a fine restaurant but it's nowhere near Eglinton Station. It's on Bedford a few doors north of Davenport. The closest subway station is St. George where both lines have a stop - Bedford is the east exit. It's about a twenty minute walk or you can take the bus that leaves from that station - goes north on Bedford - get off at Davenport. There is no extra fare for the bus. The #6 Bay bus from Bay Station on the Bloor subway (you need a transfer) goes north on Bay and Davenport to Bedford.
