Help us plan our honeymoon trip points/miles strategy
So my fiancé and I are planning our honeymoon and want to maximize the use of points for the trip. We are 100% new to this point and miles thing so we're starting from a clean slate as far as earning potential with bonuses etc. I've been researching a lot but still feel like I need some help on a strategy to get what we want.
Wedding date isn't set just yet, but it will for sure be in March or April of 2018 so we have plenty of time to earn points/miles. Our main goal is to fly at least business class to Asia from California. Most likely fly from SFO to SGN (she's Vietnamese, and part of our honeymoon will be visiting family in Vietnam), and back from Thailand (will purchase a regional flight from Vietnam to Thailand).
Biggest issue is right now we're limited to getting cards under her name as I have not great credit from a divorce and subsequent home foreclosure a couple years ago. I am rebuilding credit, but don't think I'll be able to qualify for the better earning cards until at least early next year. That being said my fiancé has amazing credit.
We already started with a Chase Sapphire Preferred card, and have already hit our 4000 spend for the 50k bonus points, as well as added myself as an authorized user for the additional 5000. By the end of this month we should have a total of ~65k ultimate rewards points. We have a CC spending potential of about $3000 a month for normal expenses.
So biggest question is where to head from here?... I would love to get the Ink card next for the big bonus but we don't own a business. Should we apply for it anyways and see if we could get it? If not, Freedom Unlimited next?
And then where from there? I figure we have about a year to earn as much as possible before we should be looking into booking award flights. Should we consider a strategy of working with the ultimate rewards partner such as united for one way. Then maybe AA and citi or american express for the other flight?
Any help or suggestions would be amazing!!! :-)
