I should say it's a multi step process:
- buy discounted gift card through shopping portal if possible (e.g. staples, best buy, etc. though more commonly ebay)
- and then, literally every time you want something from iTunes, use a shopping portal. This will also work for apps.
Cartera stated they would not honor my points due to their interpretation of:
"Not eligible on purchases made with coupon or discount codes that are not found on this site. Only eligible for purchases at the iTunes Store, including e-gift card purchases.
Not eligible on physical gift cards or gift certificates."
