I much prefer to just ask for the bed to be made up for me.....and just go to the loo for a pee and to brush my teeth. When you get back, it's all ready for you. They are very keen to do it.
Exactly this!

The bed is really, really easy to make up and takes about 60 seconds if you know what you are doing. There's a number of things that have to be in the right place or the seat will refuse to convert:
  • The table must be fully stowed.
  • The TV must be fully latched.
  • There must be nothing behind the seat (your bedding).
  • The "sitting" seat belt must not get caught as the seat flips over. There's a different seat belt on the "sleeping" side.

Rather than bother with working all this out, just ask the cabin crew, pop to the loo, throw your jimjams on and return to a wonderful, fully made up bed.

In the morning, order coffee, ask for seat to be made up, pop to the loo, get dressed, return to your seat with table already up and a steaming cuppa waiting for you.

Doing it yourself might score a frequent flyer point or two but you aren't gaining anything in the long term!
