The bedding is behind your seat back, you don't need to ask the crew and you can make your bed up yourself at any time, although as said the crew will happily do it for you.

If your MacBook and iPad are relatively new and 'clean' then I find that on LHR-JFK you're unlikely to need the power if you're fully charged on boarding. The clubhouses have US and UK plug sockets throughout them to help.
