I did receive the full reimbursement from Allianz Global Assist for the flights that were cancelled by me due to a relative's illness, based on my TD VIS Aeroplan Infinite card used for payment. As several posters suggested, for AP flights, I rebooked and cancelled for two $90 fees. AP refunded the original taxes at that point. Then the whole things was submitted to Allianz and I received all the claimed monetary amount as a cheque and AP restored the miles. Thanks for all the help. It would be good if there was a how-to post in a wiki format if there isn't already.
