After reading some (relative) horror stories about this place I was very pleasantly surprised with my recent stay. Summary - it's a very nice place worth every penny of my ridiculously low corporate SET rate.
As SPG Platinum I was expecting at least club room upgrade from the standard queen that I booked. Initially I was disappointed to be told I was getting a standard queen, but it was an updated room on the third floor. What a revelation. The room is squeaky clean, ultra modern and very comfortable. An amazing choice of toiletries in the stylish bathroom, bathrobe, complimentary water, a USB charging socket above the bedside table, modern Samsung TV, great air conditioning, and a super-comfortable bed.
The club lounge is still on the ground floor next to the restaurant, but it was comfortable, had good snacks, and an attentive waitress who kept me plied with nice beer.
I'm looking forward to my two stays next week during Farnborough airshow week. I'm now seriously considering whether I stay at my usual HI in Farnborough just a few hundred metres from the office, which I do 4 nights a week every week, or come here instead - 30/40 minutes drive but so much nicer.

None of the floors are fully renovated. The first tranche of rooms are part of the third (top) floor.
b.t.w. I looks like the whole third floor is now renovated - at least from the appearance of the corridors.
