Barramundi actually is an Australian river fish. That's not bad in Australia.
Now how barramundi would have ended up in Germany I don't know. Very unlikely that it actually was really a barramundi. Most likely that this was a translation issue and someone used the dictionary and got the first entry that seemed to match. I would look at the name used in the French and German menu. I have seen similar situations out of Brazil.
On the other hand, (even farmed) sea bass can actually be a pretty good fish. But a sea fish, not a river fish. Which, even if the translation was wrong, it likely was one.
The other thing is, of course, that one should not underestimate their capacity of turning a pretty good fish into a major disaster.
