I've seen this said before. I really dont get it. Why does it annoy you? The crew are just a few people, they've been working god know how many hours, they obviously have just a few bags. And you know, they ARE more important than you. If you look through my previous posts you'll see I'm not a BA apologiser, but on this I'm with the crew. I can't believe some people actually get annoyed by this.
And in addition, IIRC it's been said more than once that the fact that crew drop their bags late in the check-in process has an effect on this, too, because there is a last-in first-out effect when loading.
Sadly, I think you've put your finger on it. In so many FT complaints is this underlying theme: "The airline did not make me feel as important as I think I am."
