The pilot said the plane (737), not an E175 as you suggest wasn't equipped to take 12000# even after they took the time to refuel.
Once we landed, the pilot said there was no gate because our plane was large. The crew were puzzled and said it was a crock.
The weather was clear and we made it to ORD early.
You think the gate agent was mistaken? Are you are saying AA vouchers CAN be used in UA terminal?
With so many AA errors on the final flight, I had to rebook my flight with UA, to 24 hours later, and pay for a hotel/food.
What will AA will cover? What about points?

I agree that AA doesn't owe you anything for the hotel/food, particularly since you were continuing on a separate ticket on a different airline that is not even a partner. As I said before, you may get some miles.
I am not sure if vendors in T1 at ORD will accept an AA meal voucher. My most recent experience, though, was using a meal voucher at DEN in a different concourse than A (i.e., a different concourse than the one AA flies out of). But certainly, you do not need to be flying AA to use an AA meal voucher, and it is possible to walk to T3 from T1.
