If you were on an E175, unfortunately this is not an unusual occurrance, at least in my experience, and is often due to certain weather conditions that limit takeoff weight on those aircraft. And as far as I know, you can use food vouchers even if you are not flying AA--food vendors are not going to check your boarding pass or anything.
Meandering, perhaps....so let me clarify a few things.
The pilot said the plane (737), not an E175 as you suggest wasn't equipped to take 12000# even after they took the time to refuel.
Once we landed, the pilot said there was no gate because our plane was large. The crew were puzzled and said it was a crock.
The weather was clear and we made it to ORD early.
You think the gate agent was mistaken? Are you are saying AA vouchers CAN be used in UA terminal?
With so many AA errors on the final flight, I had to rebook my flight with UA, to 24 hours later, and pay for a hotel/food.
What will AA will cover? What about points?
