Dec 9 is a Friday. The early morning flights are always busy and more expensive. QF are (now) unlikely to through check your checked baggage. So you have to reclaim and make your own way landside to T1 international. Look here http://www.flyertalk.com/forum/ocean...nnections.html
For a 11:30 USA flight I would be flying to SYD the night before. Take a ~18:30 flight and stay at an airport hotel (there are not many)
