How about job satisfaction?
How long can these people continue to play the charade? They say the job is to make us safer, but once you look at the facts, you soon realize their job is to "make us FEEL safer".
After awhile, your brain gets in the way, and you stop doing this wasteful job. Pay or no pay, eventually you either get a life, or you become a drone, which of course does not add to any increased safety.
