I have seen security people trying to open laptops without success. They probably do not own a laptop, so they have no clue how to try and open one as most types are different. They seem to think that force is the answer, instead of asking the owner. Arrogance at its best.
Glad they are going to pay for your damaged laptop, but it probably does not negate the inconvenience to you caused by the damage. They should fire the person who did it.
