Well, if you're doing that, then you need to put the transponder back in the sealed box/bag so it can't be read.
I just got hit with an $0.89 charge from I-635 in Dallas when I was very careful to avoid the express toll lanes. PlatePass is charging me $9.90 for the convenience for two days on my one day rental... (because it spans midnight?).
Well, that's actually quite rich of them. I wonder what the language in the rental contract says? I have an old one from a few years ago that just says the service fee is "for each day of your rental." I have to assume the majority of one-day rentals are returned on the next calendar day from the pickup.

Good luck with the dispute; Getting $4.95 back shouldn't be *too* difficult, but I don't know how you can easily prove that you didn't use the toll lane, that's probably more an issue to be taken up with the tolling authority.
