As per the two posts above this, it can be irrelevant. All my experiences are within the last month and all have been departing on the 18:30ish flight to London. There is an SAS flight to EWR, and Norwegian flight to (i think JFK) and a QR flight to Doha all leaving around the same time, and it can be a madhouse. Plus other UK services.

The longs waits have been on an EU passport at the automatic gates. Perhaps it is a problem isolated to this time of day due to a grouping of wide bodied departures...
