For 95% of the normal tasks, such as bag checking, tagging, and printing of PNR I'd agree with you.

However, if you're doing anything more than that, I'd recommend the Premier area, especially at LAX. I thought changing the FF # on my boarding pass would be a simple task, but a non-premier agent took 5 minutes trying to figure out how to do it before a premier agent walked by and did it in ~30 seconds.
