The car hire bookings with Avis to seem to contribute towards status with them if you're collecting, at least, my bookings show up in my Avis history with values ascribed to them.

My understanding is that you won't be offered a POUG through MMB if you've booked a package, as BA Holidays holds the booking as a normal travel agent would. Otherwise, I use them a lot and there are real savings to be made.
