If you go through passport control you will be in the main departures (schengen) area with a wider selection. When it's time to board your plane you just go back through passport control (leaving schengen) but there is no customs or security checks.
Pay very close attention to the queue for going back through passport control if you decide to do this (you can see it as it is beside passport control coming in). Been through CPH a few times on BA recently and have had horrendous queues. One up to 45 minutes.
