There is no cancellation protection. One cannot claim reimbursement for expenses incurred that are not covered.

What occurred to me is that the payment for the AP ticket was made for the fees, not the travel and the AP miles were paid for from the account. So, although I was told when I wanted to make the claim, that all would be covered, the decision is up to Allianz. But I was also told by Allianz that TD could give them instructions if I state in an email (to claims@allianz...) that I waive my cancellation benefits. I have a platinum AP Visa and have not made any prior claims. I will keep this updated. I think it's good for this site to share these complex processes and to know what to expect and how to deal with the curve balls.
