I have had problems with this as well. Some other potential issues:
- Some toll lanes, especially in the NE, have tag readers as well as being staffed for cash collection. I have gone through a toll lane intending to pay cash and when I tried to hand over the cash I was told the reader picked up the tag in my rental car and it was too late.
- With some express toll lanes, the tags may get picked up even if you are in an adjacent free lane. I know that in the Seattle area where I live there have been known issues of thousands of errant charges occurring.
- It seems many cars now are coming with tags installed, enabled, and unable to be disabled (on the license plate?).
I just got hit with an $0.89 charge from I-635 in Dallas when I was very careful to avoid the express toll lanes. PlatePass is charging me $9.90 for the convenience for two days on my one day rental... (because it spans midnight?).
I have initiated the dispute...
