Yup, and it's unlikely that Airbus was the manufacturer of that APU, just as Boeing wasn't the manufacturer of the engine that failed on that BA 777 at LAS.

In fact, the last smoking APU I had was on an Embraer.

I assume the evacuation occurred because one or more of: 1) nearby personnel reported the smoke, 2) smoke got into the cabin, and/or 3) the crew had a smoke condition report but couldn't be certain there wasn't an open fire that could spread.
