In my opinion, it is high time for the rental car companies in the US to combine all of their various fees into the basic rental rates. It is not as if we can avoid their various fees, therefore why do they list them separately? Typically, these fees add over 50% to the cost of a rental - particularly if you pick up at the airport.

These fees add so much to the cost of a rental car that the "rental rate" has become almost meaningless. I am not saying that the rental car companies shouldn't list all the fees, since most are imposed by local or state governments. I would like to see them list the fees as part of the rental rate rather than list them all as add-on fees.
