When we first requested the upgrade in March, neither of us had elite status and neither of us had more than 26,000 miles in our advantage account so the agent we spoke to recommended that we split the record locator into 2 but have it setup that we would only upgrade if 2 became available.
Fast forward to last night/this morning, I was upgraded as a Plat (I completed a status challenge in May) but my wife was not. I never got an alert from Expert Flyer that any C inventory opened up but that does not matter now.
I spoke to a supervisor today who told me she could then add my wife's record locator to my Plat status, which she did.
No C inventory has opened yet. Rather frustrating experience.
I would ask to speak to a Supervisor right off the bat in order to assure that you get both PNRs linked.
I'm not sure you were lied to - but the system doesn't work that way. Under airport control, the GA would likely not upgrade you on split records with a notation not to split. But the automatic system has no way of knowing you wish not to split.
In the future, don't split the record in the first place and you'll avoid this problem.
Also - most people are happy with an upgrade - not sure why you're so frustrated. At worst, send your wife upfront.
