What expertflyer is showing is the raw situation with the plane.

BA's new check in system allows them to play more with the available seating for people and hold back seats they think the premium customers might want.

So while 'available' does mean 'no one is sitting there' - it can also mean 'no one is sitting there - but we're holding it back for someone else and won't sell it to you yet - but that might change if the flight becomes full'.

'Blocked' should unblock at T-72 - but again - they might be held back.
