I will be traveling to HK later this month with my SO. While I am a US citizen, she is a US permanent resident and a PRC passport holder. Our current plans are to fly in from PVG-HKG, and then out from HKG-NRT several days later.
From HK Immigration Department's website I see a clause for visa-free entry for PRC passport holders in transit:
"PRC passport holders who are in transit through Hong Kong to and from another country or territory may be granted a stay of seven days on each landing without the prior need to obtain an entry permit provided that normal immigration requirements are met, including possession of valid entry facilities for the destination and confirmed onward booking for the overseas journey."

Based on my understanding, this means that because we are continuing onwards to a third country, she will not need a HK entry permit, correct? She holds a valid multi-entry visa to Japan currently. Would it matter that the two flights are on separate itineraries and airlines?
Also, I'm assuming that if she enters under the transit provision, it would not be possible to visit Macau/Shenzhen on this trip, since it would require an additional entry/exit into HK?
Thanks in advance for the help!
