I've seen this nonsense before. It's not a pain at all.
It's quite easy to turn the seat into a bed yourself. Though the crew will happily do it for you.
As to your 'which plane is best' question - as you are wanting a reward flight you may not have a choice of plane as you may be restricted by which flights have reward availability.
