I think we are talking about the same thing, just in different terms. The Pier's food bar is sort of like a buffet but staff behind the counter will put your selections onto a plate for you. I suppose they can keep the quality somewhat higher by not having a full on buffet.
The Qantas lounge has a self served buffet. Both have similar quality salads, fresh bread, a soup, a pasta and some meat dishes.
But in the late afternoon, Qantas will also offer a set dinner plate. Such as seared fish or pork chop with a couple of sides.
For anyone with a multi-hour transit in HKG and really want a nap, the Pier would have a huge advantage.
