1 - use paid general access showers in airport, spend rest of layover in main waiting areas of airport.

2 - day pass to LUXX Lounge - terminal 1, but LANDSIDE. Seems like not a great option to deal with security again.

3 - day pass to SKY LOUNGE in terminal 2 - this is airside. How long would it take to transit from terminal 1 to terminal 2 and back again for my flight? Do I have to go through security again? Again, seems like it might not be worth the hassle.

I am leaning toward option 1, but just wanted to check on others' opinions.

Any advice on nice quiet-ish areas to relax in Terminal 1? Best food options?

Thank you!
FRA T1 is large and divided into several piers. Your flight from IAD is likely to arrive in Z and the flight to NBO will depart from a B gate.

Instead of of spending money on lounge access I would pay €6 or $8 for a shower near gate Z50, eat in one of the cafés or restaurants in the central area of Z pier (Level 3 on this map) before taking the Skyline shuttle to Pier B. Unfortunately you will have to clear security when you arrive in B.

There are areas with easy chairs in the corridor linking the Skyline platform and B transfer security as well as between gates B41 and B43. I haven't been to the former area for some time but if easy chairs are still there you will find them before you come to transfer security in B. There are more places to eat in Z than in B.
