Being someone who is somewhat involved in crew transfers, there are many crew members of airlines who feel the transfer pick-up time from the hotel is not early enough for them to arrive on time to get through security. They ask if we can get there earlier as they want to be in the airport earlier.

Unfortunately, we are paid by the airline or the service company the airline pays to handle the coordination of hotels and transfers, so we can not just change it without their approval. Also there may be multiple flight crews scheduled to transfer at the same time, and it's just not cost efficient for us to send two vans just to accommodate the single crew member who wishes to leave early. They also use other hotels in emergency situations which may have their own transportation, so these crews are restricted by the scheduled transfers of the hotel as well.

Also, we are located in a hub city of one of the airlines we service. This doesn't stop the airline from having to use crew hotels because the airline has many flights that use crews from other bases to service the flight and the crew runs out of hours because of the trans-con flights they operate. They might also not go home after the turn, as they may be on a multiple leg schedule which may have them away from home for a few days.
