I double-checked that it was free and with that went ahead to book the award ticket. I have since called in and was told varying costs of 100USD to 120USD which is kinda frustrating.
Which helpdesk did you ask and where did you double-check?
Suggest to e-mail them stating that you have booked a ticket under the older name based on the advice of their staff.
