And given the wife-to-be's interest in cheap massages and shopping, there's a choice between Hoi An (World Heritage town) and Nha Trang (busy tourist town). I'm not sure what there is around Con Dao.
Edit: Con Dao used to be a prison town and has some shady history, not much to do it seems.
