Absurd reduction - it takes an enormous number of processes to collaborate smoothly to have a plane leaving, let alone leaving on time. The drivers and ushers are just a tiny part of the machinery. Every airline, airport, oil company executive can claim similar importance, so do all air traffic controllers, everyone involved in the ground works and engineering. The captain of the ship doesn't make the ship float.
None of those people have to be sitting at the controls for the plane to take off. The simple point is that if you delay the pilot you end up delaying yourself and everyone else.
